Saudi Arabia’s KSrelief and the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office have joined forces to launch a $10 million project in Yemen, targeting food security for vulnerable communities. This initiative aims to bolster long-term resilience in the region, with each party contributing $5 million. The United Nations World Food Programme will oversee the project’s implementation across the Yemeni governorates of Al-Mahrah, Hadramout, Aden, Al-Dhale, and Lahij.
The collaborative effort is designed to improve access to food through conditional cash transfers, aiding families in shifting from emergency food assistance to a more self-sufficient model. Additionally, the project seeks to restore productive infrastructure, providing a foundation for sustainable development in the targeted areas. The initiative’s comprehensive approach is expected to enhance the resilience of communities facing food insecurity.
Beyond immediate food assistance, the project includes vocational training programs and support for local authorities. These measures are intended to improve governance and promote sustainable management of community assets. By equipping individuals with skills and strengthening local governance, the initiative aims to create a more robust framework for long-term community development.
This agreement reflects Saudi Arabia’s broader humanitarian mission, as executed through KSrelief. Since 2015, the agency has been instrumental in delivering over 4,400 aid projects valued at more than $8.5 billion across 113 countries. The current joint venture with the UK underscores a continued commitment to addressing global humanitarian challenges, particularly in conflict-affected regions like Yemen.
