G7 to Release 100 Million Barrels from Emergency Reserves to Lower Fuel Prices

by admin477351

The Group of Seven (G7) nations have reached an agreement to release up to 100 million barrels of emergency oil and diesel reserves in a bid to alleviate escalating fuel prices and stabilize global energy markets. This coordinated effort involves the release of approximately 50 million barrels each of diesel and crude oil, with a substantial portion of the diesel expected to enter the market within the first 20 days.

This decision was prompted by a sharp increase in diesel prices and concerns over potential fuel shortages. These challenges have been exacerbated by disruptions in energy supplies from the Middle East, attacks on Russian refineries, and a tightening of global refining capacity.

Further compounding the situation, the United States has ramped up diesel exports to international markets, which has led to a reduction in domestic stockpiles and an increase in prices. In response, US President Donald Trump had previously threatened to limit diesel exports unless European nations utilized their own emergency reserves.

The coordinated release by G7 leaders aims to lower the prices of petroleum products, especially diesel, without imposing export restrictions that might further strain global supplies. This move follows the International Energy Agency’s earlier release of a record amount of emergency crude reserves to address disruptions in global oil markets.
