China Urges Fair Business Practices to Boost Ties with UK

In a recent call for action, China has urged the United Kingdom to foster a fair and non-discriminatory environment for Chinese companies operating within its borders. This appeal comes as both nations strive to enhance their cooperative efforts and strengthen bilateral ties. The call was made during the 11th China-UK Strategic Dialogue in Beijing, where Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the importance of the UK providing favorable conditions to support the growth and development of Chinese businesses, as well as the overall relationship between the two countries.

With high-level engagements recently resumed, Wang Yi highlighted the necessity of maintaining open dialogue, expanding practical cooperation, and upholding multilateralism in the face of global uncertainties. The discussions also underscored the significant roles that China and the UK play as key international actors in addressing worldwide challenges and promoting a more balanced global governance system.

UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper echoed this sentiment by reaffirming Britain’s dedication to cultivating stable and constructive relations with China. She noted that as the international environment becomes increasingly complex, robust dialogue and cooperation between the two countries are essential. Additionally, Cooper reiterated the UK’s consistent stance on the Taiwan issue and expressed her country’s willingness to continue engaging with China, while also managing any differences through dialogue.

Economic and trade relations were central to the strategic talks, with both parties investigating opportunities in emerging fields such as science, technology, artificial intelligence, climate initiatives, and innovation. Cooper’s visit to China included meetings in Beijing and Shenzhen, aimed at exploring areas for expanded cooperation in these sectors.

Analysts suggest that the dialogue signifies a commitment from both governments to transform recent political agreements into tangible outcomes, while maintaining communication on global issues and economic collaboration. This concerted effort reflects a mutual desire to not only address pressing global challenges but also to leverage emerging economic opportunities for the benefit of both nations.
